Women's Soccer Battles To Scoreless Draw At Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. -- Paige Silva made her goalkeeping debut and turned in a clean sheet to help the Elms College women's soccer team preserve an unbeaten opening weekend with a 0-0 tie at Nichols on Sunday.

The Blazers peppered the Bison defense with 23 total shots, including eight shots on goal, but Brooke Downey came up with seven saves and the Nichols defense made another to keep Elms off the scoreboard. Silva needed two saves for the shutout.

Sydney Goodwin fired seven shots in the game, including two on-goal, and Gigi Thibault added four, with three on-goal. Six of Elms' 23 shots came in overtime, with four in the first overtime and two in the second. Elms had a 8-6 advantage in corner kicks in the game.

The Blazers wrap up their season-opening five-game road trip next week with trips to Eastern Connecticut State (Sept. 5) and Bangor, Maine where they will face Husson (Sept. 8) and UMass.-Boston (Sept. 9).
