Bates Sneaks In Late Goal To Take 1-0 Win At Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Elms College women's soccer team withstood the first 31 shots from Bates on Sunday afternoon, but the Bobcats scored an 88th minute goal to escape Leary Field with a 1-0 victory.

So Kim (Thornhill, Ontario) took advantage of a Blazer (8-5-1) miscommunication in front of goal to put home the game-winner with just 2:04 to play. It was Bates' (4-8) 32nd shot of the game, and the Bobcats finished the game with a 33-7 advantage in shots and a 13-3 lead in shots on-goal. Bates also finished with a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Elms goalkeeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) made 12 saves to keep the Bobcats off the board throughout most of the contest. Haley Richard (Monson, Mass.), Shannon Denault (Chicopee, Mass.) and Kelsey Shea (Belchertown, Mass.) each had a shot on goal for Elms. Shea's opportunity came on a free kick from 25 yards out that forced Bates goalkeeper Nicki Lane (Washington, D.C.) to the ground to secure the save with three and a half minutes to play in a scoreless game.

Kim fired five shots, including four shots on-goal in the game and Olivia Amdur (Chicago, Ill.) took a game-high eight shots. Lane made two second-half saves for the Bobcats after replacing starter Katherine Nuckols (Los Angeles, Calif.), who made one save in the game's first 45 minutes.

Sunday's contest was the final non-conference game of the season for Elms. The Blazers return to New England Collegiate Conference play on Oct. 17 when Bay Path visits Leary Field. Bates will face its second NECC foe in as many games when it hosts Lesley on Oct. 18.
