Lesley Slips Past Elms In OT

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's soccer team battled with New England Collegiate Conference powerhouse Lesley University for nearly 100 minutes on Saturday before falling 1-0 in overtime in heartbreaking fashion.

Elms (5-3-1, 1-1 NECC) was out-shot 18-3 in the contest but kept the Lynx (4-3, 2-0 NECC) off the scoreboard through 90 minutes to force overtime. Lesley, however got the game-winner in the 99th minute when Rachel Buckley (San Diego, Calif.) slotted a ball to the far post past Blazer goalkeeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) for the victory.

Sydney Goodwin (Lawrence, Mass.) had two shots for Elms and Kelsey Shea (Belchertown, Mass.) had another. Molin finished with four saves.

Samantha Bessey (Algonquin, Ill.) and Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas) each had two shots in the game for Lesley while Xaelel Allen-Caballero (Henrietta, N.Y.), Kyra Harbus (Ventura, Calif.), Claire Hounslow (Westborough, Mass.) and Buckley each added two.

The Lynx held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks in the game. Elms was dealt four yellow cards in the contest, as Paige Silva (Swansea, Mass.), Shannon Denault (Chicopee, Mass.) and Shea were cautioned.

Elms will step out of conference when it visits Clark University on Sept. 25 before hosting Becker on Sept. 29. The Lynx return to action on Sept. 25 when they host Emmerson College.
