Cirillo Successful on Day One of NEISDA Championships

SOUTH KINGSTON, R.I. – The Elms College men's and women's swimming teams opened the 2015 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships on a good note during the first day of competition Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Nick Cirillo (Gloversville, N.Y.) put an exclamation point on his superb sophomore campaign by finishing third in the 500 meter freestyle in a time of 4:51.97, setting a new Elms College school record. Junior James Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.) placed tenth in the 200 meter backstroke, while sophomore Nick Bergstrom (Derry, N.H.) finished 12th in the 50 meter freestyle (22.93). Junior Misha Kuyuzov (Chicopee, Mass.) took 14th in the 200 meter individual medley (2:14.67), and 15th in the 50 meter breaststroke (31.97).

The men's squad sits in ninth place on the team leaderboard with 56.5 points after day one. The Blazers will return to the pool as the championships continue Saturday morning.
