Swimming Victorious Over Norwich

CHICOPEE, Mass. - Eight swimmers registered first-place finishes as the Elms College swim teams battled Norwich University at Partyka Natatorium Saturday afternoon. The Blazers women's squad defeated the Cadets, 145-106, while the men's team fell to Norwich, 200-56.


Junior Kim Panetta (Belchertown, Mass.) recorded a pair of wins in the 100 meter freestyle in a time of 1:10.81, and the 200 meter freestyle (2:31.06). Junior Crystal Archibald (Portland, Maine) claimed first in the 50 meter breaststroke (41.77), and the 100 meter breaststroke (1:31.60). Freshman Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) took first in the 50 meter backstroke (34.84) and the 100 meter backstroke (1:19.76). Sophomore Abigail Will (Hopkinton, Mass.) won the 100 meter butterfly (1:21.19), while senior Erika Aponte (Palmer, Mass.) took first in the 50 meter freestyle (31.07), second in the 100 meter freestyle (1:14.41), and fourth in the 200 meter freestyle (2:44.31). Freshman Aislinn Carrier (Charlestown, Mass.) was victorious in the 400 meter freestyle (5:32.17), along with second-place in the 50 meter freestyle (32.12) and 3rd in the 200 meter freestyle (2:34.12). Sophomore Kelly O'Connell (Monson, Mass.) won the 800 meter freestyle (13:42.75), with a second-place finish in the 100 meter butterfly (1:41.27) and third-place finish inthe 400 meter freestyle (5:54.63). Freshman Rachael Coleman (West Hartford, Conn.) posted a pair of second-place finishes in the 50 meter breaststroke (43.83) and the 100 meter breaststroke (1:37.26), while taking third in the 50 meter freestyle (34.06). Junior Miranda Pratt (Southington, Conn.) was second in the 800 meter freestyle (13:42.75), fourth in the 100 meter butterfly (2:15.68), and fourth in the 400 meter freestyle (6:41.15). Freshman Mackenzie Marsters (Somers, Conn.) took third in the 100 meter freestyle (1:22.30), fifth in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:45.49), and sixth in the 50 meter breaststroke (46.53), while sophomore Satina Furness was fifth in the 50 meter backstroke (1:10.27). The 200 meter medley relay team of Connors, Archibald, Will and Aponte won the event in the time of 2:19.89.


On the men's side, sophomore Nick Cirillo (Gloversville, N.Y.) claimed first in the 200 meter freestyle (2:05.04), with a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 meter freestyle (58.72) and the 400 meter freestyle (4:41.09). Junior James Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.) recorded a trio of second-place finishes in the 50 meter backstroke (31.91), the 50 meter butterfly (30.62), and the 100 meter backstroke (1:09.83). Freshman Michael DiPasquale (Meriden, Conn.) took second in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:23.04) and fifth in the 100 meter individual medley (1:13.82). Junior Misha Kuyuzov (Swampscott, Mass.) finished third in the 50 meter breaststroke (35.71), fourth in the 50 meter butterfly (30.92), and fourth in the 100 meter individual medley (1:09.54). Senior Niels Thomsen (Southington, Conn.) placed third in the 100 meter freestyle (1:02.12), fourth in the 200 meter freestyle (2:22.03), and fifth in the 400 meter freestyle (5:18.03). Freshman Rick Giordano (Agawam, Mass.) was fourth in the 50 meter freestyle (32.79), and fifth in the 100 meter backstroke (1:37.30). Freshman DJ Sherman (Winstead, Conn.) took fifth in the 50 meter breaststroke (40.15), the 100 meter breaststroke (1:26.49), and sixth in the 100 meter individual medley (1:15.82). Freshman Tony Luciani (Agawam, Mass.) finshed fifth in the 50 meter freestyle (37.90), and sixth in the 100 meter freestyle (1:28.47). In the 200 meter freetyle relay, the team of Cirillo, Grippo, DiPasquale, and Thomsen finished third with a time of 1:51.92. In the 200 meter medley relay, the team of Giordano, Kuyuzov, Sherman, and Luciani took fourth with a time of 2:23.99.


The teams will return to the pool in road meet at Regis College on Saturday, January 24th at 1:00 p.m.
