Men's Swimming Downs Colby-Sawyer

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College men's swimming team registered their first victory of the season with a 126-116 win over visiting Colby-Sawyer College at Partyka Natatorium Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Nick Bergstrom (Derry, N.H.) recorded a trio of victories, winning the 50 meter freestyle (25.60), 50 meter butterfly (29.67), and 100 meter freestyle (58.14). Sophomore Nick Cirillo (Gloversville, N.Y.) posted wins in the 400 meter freestyle (4:46.96) and 200 meter freestyle (2:08.58), along with a second-place finish in the 100 meter freestyle (59.93). Junior Misha Kuyuzov (Swampscott, Mass.) came in first in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:17.69) and the 100 meter individual medley (1:08.18), and took third in the 50 meter breaststroke (35.05). Junior James Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.) won the 100 meter butterfly in a time of 1:08.99, and took second in the 800 meter freestyle (9:51.25) and the 100 meter backstroke (1:10.22). Freshman DJ Sherman (Winstead, Conn.) tallied a pair of third-place finishes in the 50 meter backstroke (36.28) and the 50 meter butterfly (32.36), while freshman Michael DiPasquale (Meriden, Conn.) took second in the 50 meter backstroke (34.78), and fourth in the 50 meter freestyle (29.94). Senior Niels Thomsen (Southington, Conn.) was third in the 400 meter freestyle (5:38.44), and freshman Rick Giordano (Agawam, Mass.) took fourth in the 100 meter backstroke (1:37.54). The 200 meter medley relay team of Grippo, Kuyuzov, Bergstrom, and Cirillo won the event with a time of 2:01.83), while the 200 meter freestyle relay of Sherman, Thomsen, Giordano, and DiPasquale took second with a time of 2:03.71.

The Blazers will return to the pool against UMass-Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at Partyka Natatorium at 1:00 p.m.
