Swimming Defeated by UMass-Dartmouth

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College swimming teams fell to visiting University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth in a meet at Partyka Natatorium Saturday afternoon. The men's team was downed, 102.5-88.5, while the women's team lost 105-86.

For the men's team, sophomore Nick Cirillo (Gloversville, N.Y.) posted a pair of pair of victories, taking the 200 meter freestyle (2:08.84) and the 400 meter freestyle (4:37.24), along with a second-place finish in the 100 meter freestyle (59.15). Freshman Nick Bergstrom (Derry, N.H.) won the 50 meter freestyle (26.02) and finished second in the 100 meter butterfly (1:05.19). Junior Misha Kuyuzov (Swampscott, Mass.) had the top finish in the 50 meter breaststroke with a time of 34.95, and took fourth in the 100 meter freestyle (1:01.23). Junior James Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished second in the 50 meter breaststroke (32.44), with a pair of third-place finishes in the 800 meter freestyle (10:03.56) and 400 meter individual medley (5:31.87). Freshman Michael DiPasquale (Meriden, Conn.) was third in the 50 meter backstroke (34.46) and fourth in the 50 meter freestyle (29.21). Freshman DJ Sherman (Winstead, Conn.) finished third in the 400 meter freestyle (5:07.37), fourth in the 100 meter butterfly (1:15.98), and fourth in the 800 meter freestyle (10:56.13). Senior Niels Thomsen (Southington, Conn.) claimed second in the 50 meter breaststroke (40.54), and a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 100 meter freestyle (1:01.88) and the 200 meter freestyle (2:19.52). Freshman Rick Giordano (Agawam, Mass.) took third in the 50 meter breaststroke (50.74) and fifth in the 50 meter backstroke (43.30), and freshman Tony Luciani (Agawam, Mass.) finished sixth in the 50 meter freestyle (35.22). The relay team of Bergstrom, DiPasquale, Luciani and Giordano won the 200 meter freestyle relay in a time of 2:05.30.

On the women's side, freshman Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) won the 50 meter backstroke in a time of 34.67, and took fourth in the 200 meter freestyle (2:48.48). Junior Crystal Archibald (Portland, Maine) posted the top finish in 50 meter breaststroke (42.83), and a fifth-place finish in the 200 meter freestyle (3:06.26). Sophomore Sarah Swart (Willington, Conn.) was second in the 800 meter freestyle (11:26.80), and third in the 50 meter backstroke (38.78). Sophomore Abigail Will (Hopkington, Mass.)  registered a pair of second-place finishes in the 50 meter butterfly (34.22) and the 400 meter freestyle (5:23.25), and was fourth in the 50 meter freestyle (32.16). Junior Kim Panetta (Belchertown, Mass.) was second in the 200 meter freestyle (2:31.43) and third in the 50 meter butterfly (35.66). Senior Erika Aponte (Palmer, Mass.) finished second in the 50 meter freestyle (31.70) and third in the 100 meter freestyle (1:11.93). Freshman Aislinn Carrier (Charlestown, Mass.) took second in the 50 meter breaststroke (44.26) and fourth in the 100 meter freestyle (1:11.94), while freshman Mackenzie Marsters (Somers, Conn.) was third in the 50 meter breasstroke (54.35). junior Miranda Pratt  (Southington, Conn.) came in fifth in the 400 meter freestyle (6:40.87). Sophomore Kelly O'Connell (Monson, Mass.) recorded a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 800 meter freestyle (12:27.59) and the 400 meter freestyle (6:11.86). Freshman Rachael Coleman (West Hartford, Conn.) was fifth in the 800 meter freestyle (12:41.33) and fifth in the 100 meter freestyle (1:17.87). The relay team of Coleman, Pratt, O'Connell, and Swart won the 200 meter freestyle (2:24.33), while the team of Connors, Archibald, Panetta, and Aponte was second in the 200 meter medley relay.
