Swim Teams Complete Day Two Action at NEISDA Championships

WESTON, Mass. – The Elms College men's and women's swim teams completed day two action at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships by setting 10 school records on Saturday afternoon at the Upper Valley Aquatics Center in White River Junction, Vt.

Following the second day of action, the men's team is currently in eight place out of 12 teams, while the women's team is in 10th out of 22 teams. Sunday's action begins at 10:00 a.m.

On the men's side, sophomore Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) set a new school mark in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 23.95 which was good enough for fourth place, while senior Garrett Brune (Lakeville, Mass.) set a new school mark in the preliminaries of the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.14 but missed the cut for the finals.

The 200-yard medley relay team of senior Nicholas Provost (Three Rivers, Mass.), Brune, Goan and sophomore Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) set a new school mark in the preliminaries and then topped that time in the finals, finishing with a time of 1:44.24 to place eighth.

The 800-yard freestyle relay team of junior Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.), Provost, junior Jonathan Girard (West Springfield, Mass.) and Brune registered a school record time of 7:50.94 and placed ninth in the event, while Gehring's opening 200-yard time was also a school record (1:51.54).

For the women's team, sophomore Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) glided to a new school mark in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:02.53) to place fifth in the event, while sophomore Ashley Kirchner (Dalton, Mass.) notched a time of 28.46 in the 50-yard butterfly to set a new school record and notch 14th place in the event.

The relay squad of DeGrazia, junior Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.), Kirchner and junior Chalis Bird (Windsor, Mass.) tied the school record in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:17.36), while DeGrazia's opening 200-yard freestyle leg also established a new school mark at 1:58.80.

Bird also added an 11th place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.82.
