Swimming Competes Against Regis College, Assumption College

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) set a pair of school records, and the Blazers' women's team set a new school and pool record in the 200-meter freestyle relay in Saturday's men's and women's swim meet at Partyka Natatorium.

On the men's side Regis College (6-1) topped Elms (3-4-1), 147-80. In the women's double-dual meet, Elms (9-4) bested NCAA Division II Assumption College, 63-58 and Regis (93-28), while Assumption (6-2) earned an 83-30 victory over Regis (2-7).

For the men, Goan set his new school marks in the 100-meter butterfly (1:01.44) and the 50-meter butterfly (26.89), while senior Garrett Brune (Lakeville, Mass.) added a new school record in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:15.80 in addition to winning the 50-meter breaststroke (34.49).

Regis' AJ Graf (Newton, Mass.) set a new Elms pool record in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 56.62 and added three wins, while Nick Yerzyk (West Hills, Calif.) also won two events for the Pride in the 100-meter backstroke (1:09.84) and the 100-meter individual medley (1:08.81).

The Blazers' relay team of Goan, junior Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.), sophomore Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) and senior Nicholas Provost (Three Rivers, Mass.) won the 200-meter freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.62.

On the women's side, the 200-meter freestyle relay squad of DeGrazia, junior Chalis Bird (Windsor, Mass.), sophomore Ashley Kirchner (Dalton, Mass.) and junior Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) sprinted to a time of 1:57.60 and set a new Elms school and pool record and edging Assumption's top relay team (1:57.91) to earn the victory in the meet.

DeGrazia added a new school record in the 800-meter freestyle (9:56.01) and secured victories in the 50-meter backstroke (33.11) and the 100-meter backstroke (1:12.42).

Dudunake chipped in with wins in the 50-meter breaststroke (36.65) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:20.84), while junior Emalee Furtek (Ludlow, Mass.) touched the wall first in the 50-meter butterfly with a time of 33.30.

Both squads conclude their dual meet seasons when they travel to the University of New England on Saturday, Feb. 4 for a 1:00 p.m. start.
