Men’s and Women’s Swim Team Compete at Colby-Sawyer College

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Elms College sophomore Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) set a new school record in the 50-yard butterfly and added three wins, while sophomore Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) notched three wins in Saturday afternoon's men's and women's swim meet at Colby-Sawyer College with Plymouth State University (women only).  

Elms' men's team narrowly lost to Colby-Sawyer, 130-126, while the women's team also suffered a slim setback to the Chargers, 69-63. The women's team earned a 72-65 victory over Plymouth State, while Colby-Sawyer also beat the Panthers, 77-63.

On the men's side, Goan won all three individual events he competed in. He set a new school record in the 50-yard butterfly (24.37) and touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle (23.87) and the 50-yard backstroke (27.94).

Freshman Jeffrey Ludington (Killingworth, Conn.) also secured a trio of top finishes including the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.04), the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.12) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.54).

Juniors Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.) and Garrett Brune (Lakeville, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers' top individual performances with two first place finishes apiece. Gehring won the 1,000-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle events with respective times of 11:13.57 and 53.61. Brune posted wins in the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke events registering times of 30.49 and 1:09.11 respectively.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Ludington, Brune, Goan and Gehring added a winning time of 1:46.81.

For the women, DeGrazia raced to three first place times in the 50-yard backstroke (31.56), the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.85) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:38.12).

Junior Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) powered to a top time of 1:12.90 in the 100-yard breaststroke and added two second place finishes, while sophomore Diana Borys (Oakville, Conn.) surged to first in the 50-yard butterfly (29.07).

The squad of DeGrazia, Dudunake, Borys and junior Chalis Bird (Windsor, Conn.) swam to victory in the 200-yard medley relay with a speedy time 2:00.22.

The Elms women's team returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4 for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship, while the men's team will compete in the first-ever GNAC Invitational on the same day. Start time is set for 9:00 a.m. on each day.
