Women’s Swimming Tops St. Joseph’s College, Men’s Swimming Falls to Monks

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) and freshman Jeffrey Ludington (Killingworth, Conn.) broke school records for the men's team, while sophomore Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) and Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) set school records for the women's team in Saturday afternoon's men's and women's dual swimming meet with St. Joseph's College (Maine) at Partyka Natatorium.

The Blazers won the women's competition, 132-106, while the St. Joseph's College men's team earned a 127-111 win. Elms' women's squad is now 2-1 on the season, and the men's team 1-1 overall, while the Monks' women slip to 1-1, and the men's team improve to 1-0.

For the men, Goan won the 50-meter backstroke (30.79) and set a new school record in the 50-meter butterfly with a time of 27.79, while Ludington surged to a trio of wins in the 200-meter freestyle (2:11.48), the 100-meter individual medley (1:09.35) and set a new school mark in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:28.84.

Senior Nicholas Provost (Three Rivers, Mass.) won the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:17.16 followed by senior Michael Desmond (Nashua, N.H.) with a time of 1:35.01. Junior Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.) secured a victory in the 100-meter freestyle (1:01.69).

On the women's side, DeGrazia won two events including the 200-meter freestyle (2:19.01) and the 200-meter backstroke in a new school record time of 2:36.68.

Dudunake topped the school record in the 50-meter freestyle (29.40) and won the 100-meter freestyle (1:21.64), while sophomore Ashley Kirchner (Dalton, Mass.) notched victories in the 50-meter breaststroke (38.87) and the 100-meter freestyle (1:05.89).

Sophomore Diana Borys (Oakville, Conn.) and freshman Rebecca Yungk (New Britain, Conn.) finished first and second in the 100-meter butterfly with respective times of 1:17.52 and 1:25.21, while junior Chalis Bird (Windsor, Mass.) registered three second place finishes for Elms.

The relay team of DeGrazia, senior Katie Roberts (Torrington, Conn.), Borys and junior Emalee Furtek (Ludlow, Mass.) touched the wall first in the 200-meter medley relay.

The women's swim team is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 15 when it travels to Smith College for a 7:00 p.m. meet. Both teams return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Colby-Sawyer College at 1:00 p.m.
