Chicopee, MA – The Elms College men's basketball team came up short in a tough 72-67 loss at home to the visiting Becker College Hawks on Wednesday night at Picknelly Arena. The loss sends the Blazers overall record to 5-12 and 1-3 in NECC play.
Elms produced one of its best 20 minutes of basketball all season on both ends of the court in the opening frame. The Blazers held the Hawks to 39 percent from the field, while hitting 53 percent on the offensive end, sinking seven three pointers and hitting all of their free throws. Elms took a 39-34 lead into the break.
The Blazers continued their strong play into the second half, and built up a 10 point lead (51-41) at the 13 minute mark. The direction of the game would change after the visitors went on a 13 point run to jump ahead 54-51. The two teams traded baskets the rest of the way, however Elms was never able to get the lead back and dropped the home game 72-67.
Dj Edelen (Prince George, VA) would lead all scorers with 23 points, Nikolas Brown (Wellington, FL) had a big night as well with 15 points and seven rebounds. David Lopez Jr. pitched in with eight points for the Blazers.
Elms is back in action on Saturday 1/25 at 1PM when they travel to Mitchell College in NECC play.
