Blazers Tame Panthers In Non-Conference Action

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College men's basketball team outlasted the visiting Plymouth State Panthers 67-64 on Saturday evening at Picknelly Arena. The win puts the Blazers at 2-4 on the season.

Elms would get off to a slow start, and find themselves trailing 13-8 at the halfway point of the opening half. A layup by Justin Feliciano (Springfield, MA) would spark the Blazers to an eight point run, giving them a 16-13 advantage. The two teams would trade baskets the rest of the half with neither team able to pull away.

The second half would remain close throughout with the Panthers holding on to a slim lead. The Blazers would eventually find a way to jump out in front 61-59 with only 2:38 remaining in the game off of two made free throws from David Lopez (Willimantic, CT). Kewan Smoot (Windsor, Ct) would ice the game with a layup from a Tyler Barney (Ft, Lauderdale, FL) assist with 30 seconds left, giving Elm the 67-64 win.

Smoot would finish with a double-doulble on 15 points and 11 assists. Tahquell Cadel (Bridgeport, CT) was big on the boards, bringing down 13 rebounds. Nikolas Brown and Feliciano would combine for 26 points off the bench.

The Blazers are back in action on Tuesday 11/25 when they travel to Trinity College with a 7PM tip off time.
