Edelen Registers Double-Double in Win Over Mitchell

Chicopee, MA -- The Elms College men's basketball team picked up a huge 66-63 win over Mitchell College in New England Collegiate Conference action on Wednesday night at Picknelly Arena.

The Blazers held Mitchell to a season-low 30 percent from the floor while shooting 40 percent for the game, and held a 57-45 edge on the glass. D.J. Edelen (Prince George, VA) paced Elms with a game-high 20 points.

Points were hard to come by in the opening half as the teams were tied at 17-17 with 7:18 remaining. The Blazers then ripped off 10 unanswered points, eight of which came from Kewan Smoot (Windsor, CT), to take the lead for good. The Mariners cut into the deficit with a pair of threes in the final 1:13 of the half and pulled within 35-30 by the break.

After the visitors got within two in the early stages of the second half, Elms built the lead back to double digits but let Mitchell back into the game down the stretch. Leading 60-51 with 3:23 to go, the Mariners went on a 8-1 run, the visitors twice got within two in the final 1:13, but the Blazers answered back both times with buckets to thwart the comeback, and take the game 66-63.

Edelen added 18 rebounds, Ahmad Conner (Springfield, MA) was big for Elms registering a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards.

The Blazers close out the regular season on Saturday 2/2 at 12PM when they host Dean College.
