Blazer Men's Basketball Falls at WestConn

DANBURY, Conn. – The Elms men's basketball team came up short at Western Connecticut State University, falling 77-67 after the Colonials made a decisive run late in the second half on Monday night.

The Blazers (1-17) led by a point at halftime but after WestConn scored the first two points of the second half, Elms never regained the lead. Despite trailing, the Blazers hung close throughout a majority of the second half. Elms was within three, trailing 58-55, with 8:36 to play before the Colonials (11-8) before WestConn scored the next four points to pull ahead by seven. A 3-pointer from Michal Ohradka pulled the Blazers back within four, but the Colonials slowly added to their lead throughout the final five minutes to seal the win.

DeAngelo Cousar led four Blazers who scored in double-figures with 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Ohradka added 14 points off the bench, while Diomanni Fernandez and Greg Metelus each added 10. Metelus added a team-high 10 rebounds in the game.

Tyler Rowe scored a game-high 20 points for WestConn, while Aaron Samuel added 15 and Legend Johnson scored 13. Eli Rodriguez finished with a game-high 14 rebounds for the Colonials.

WestConn shot 48 percent (26-of-54) from the field in the game while Elms shot 39 percent (26-of-66). The Blazers won the turnover battle, 16-12, but the Colonials dominated the glass, finishing with a 44-30 rebounding advantage. Elms hit nine 3-pointers on 26 attempts.

The Blazers will visit Mitchell on Jan. 31 before returning home to face Newbury College on Feb. 3.
