Blazer Men End Season With NECC Quarterfinal Loss At Mitchell

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The sixth-seeded Elms College men's basketball team saw its season come to a close after a 70-49 road loss at Mitchell College in the New England Collegiate Conference quarterfinal on Tuesday.

DeAngelo Cousar (Bowie, Md.) led Elms with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting and added five rebounds in the game. Freshman Greg Metelus (Palm Beach, Fla.), who earned NECC Rookie of the Week honors on Monday, added 11 points and six boards in the contest.

Mitchell took a 15-5 lead within the first five minutes and held the advantage throughout. Elms trailed 36-23 at halftime and was never able to cut the deficit enough to threaten the Mariners.

Domenico Santiago (Port. St. Lucie, Fla.) scored a game-high 20 points for Mitchell, while Hasani Williams (Miramar, Fla.) added 16. Brayvon Young (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) finished with 14 points and Steffen Brunson chipped in with 10 for third-seeded Mitchell, who will visit No. 2 seed Becker on Feb. 22 in the NECC semifinals.

Elms shot 32 percent from the field in the game while Mitchell hit 45 percent of its attempts. The Mariners held a slight edge on the glass, 40-37, and also won the turnover battle, 20-15.

The Blazers finish the season with a 4-22 record while Mitchell improves to 14-12.
