Men's Basketball Falls at Newbury

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Elms College men's basketball team couldn't slow down Newbury on Thursday night, falling 91-67.

DeAngelo Cousar led the Blazers with 15 points and Andre Peguero finished one rebound shy of a double-double tallying 10 points and nine boards for Elms. Michal Ohradka added 10 points and Pablo Ortiz had eight points and nine rebounds.

Newbury poured in 50 points in the first half, building a 50-33 lead, and held off Elms in the second. The Nighthawks shot 47.4 percent from the field and hit 14-of-33 3-point attempts as a team. Daivon Edwards and Wayne Massey did most of the damage from deep for Newbury. Edwards finished with a game-high 23 points and hit 6-of-13 3s, while Massey added 20 points and went 5-for-10 from long range.

The Blazers had a 41-37 rebounding advantage in the game and turned 15 offensive rebounds into 13 second-chance points, but 23 turnovers proved costly, leading to 28 Newbury points.

The loss drops Elms to 0-11 overall and 0-2 in New England Collegiate Conference play, while Newbury improves to 2-8 overall and 1-1 in the NECC. Elms visits Becker on Jan. 13 at 1:00 p.m. to wrap up the week.
