Daniel Webster College Clips Men’s Basketball, 50-47

NASHUA, N.H. – Elms College junior forward Jamal Hulum (Reston, Va.) scored a game-high 15 points and added 10 boards, but Daniel Webster College's Daris Cosby (Columbia, S.C.) swished a go-ahead three-pointer with 50 seconds remaining to help the Eagles edge past the Blazers, 50-47 in Saturday's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's basketball game in Nashua, N.H.

With the loss, Elms moves to 10-6 on the season, 7-2 in NECC action while Daniel Webster improves to 4-10 overall, 3-4 in league play. The loss is also Elms' first to Daniel Webster since the 2001 season.

With the score set at 45-45 with 1:25 remaining in the contest, Daniel Webster's Khial Watson (Chesterfield, Mich.) hit the backend of two free throws to give the Eagles a point edge.

Elms' junior guard Charles Bason (Riverdale, Md.) converted a layup to give the Blazers a slim 47-46 edge before Cosby delivered his strike from beyond the arc with 50 ticks on the clock to give Daniel Webster a 49-47 advantage.

Elms' junior guard Walter Mfuko (Amherst, Mass.) lined up the go-ahead three-pointer with 30 seconds remaining but the shot did not find nylon as Cosby was there for the rebound. Aiden Collins (Paterson, N.J.) then hit the first of two free throws for the Eagles to give Daniel Webster a three-point cushion. The Blazers held the ball for the final shot but Bason's three-point attempt fell short as the Eagles held on for a thrilling victory.

Hulum was Elms' lone double-digit scorer with 15 points, while junior guard Andre French (Torrington, Conn.) added nine points and Bason seven.

Hulum also collected a game-best 10 rebounds, while senior guard Daniel Gonzalez (East Windsor, Conn.) finished with nine boards and junior forward David McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J.) hauled in eight boards.

Neither team shot well from the field as Elms tallied a 25.4-percent mark from the floor and were held to just 2 for 25 shooting from three-point range (8.0-percent) while the Eagles faired only slightly better at 26.7-percent.

Daniel Webster was led by John Hickson (Springfield, Mass.) who scored 13 points and tied for the team-high in rebounds with nine, while Cosby followed with 1 points and eight boards. Eric Suarez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed eight points and nine rebounds in the winning effort.

Elms returns to NECC action Thursday, Jan. 26 when it travels to Wheelock College for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
