Lockett, Bench Play Lifts Men’s Basketball to 75-49 Victory Over Daniel Webster College

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College freshman forward Kenneth Lockett (Atlanta, Ga.) scored a team-high 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the field and the Blazers' bench scored 46 points to help post a 75-49 win over Daniel Webster College in Thursday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's basketball game at Picknelly Arena.

With the win, Elms improves to 13-9 on the season, 8-5 in league action, while Daniel Webster slips to 8-14 overall, 7-7 in conference action.

Lockett was superb in 14 minutes of action off the bench, scoring a team-best 15 points, hauling in a game-high nine rebounds and adding a block and a steal to help lead the Blazers in victory. Junior guard James Black (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore forward Isaiah Odunlami (Providence, R.I.) finished with 13 and 12 points respectively off the bench as Elms closed out the game shooting 48.4-percent from the floor (44.3-percent for the game) in the final 20 minutes.

After battling to five ties and an 18-18 score in the first 12:39 of the contest, Lockett hit the front-end of two free throws to spark a 12-2 run that gave Elms a 30-20 lead with 2:46 to play in the opening frame.

Daniel Webster's Daris Cosby (Columbia, S.C.) drilled a three-pointer and a layup by Rufus Louf (Salem, Mass.) with 59 ticks on the clock pulled the Eagles to within six at 31-25 before Odunlami put the Blazers ahead by seven when he converted one of two foul shots to end the half.

Elms scored five of the first six points to start the second period and the Blazers held its double-digit cushion before back-to-back makes from three-point range by Cosby pulled Daniel Webster to within five at 39-34 with 16:10 to play in the game.

Elms built its lead back up to nine (45-36 at the 11:50 mark) before junior guard Charles Bason (Riverdale, Md.) canned a trey to ignite a 16-2 run by the Blazers that was capped by a sensational alley-oop dunk by Lockett on a perfect feed from junior guard Andre French (Torrington, Conn.) to give Elms a 61-38 lead with 7:20 to play in the contest.

A pair of free throws by Cosby narrowed the Eagles' deficit to 21, but that's as close as they would get as Elms extended its lead to as many as 29 (74-45 with 3:14 to play) to pull away to a 75-49 victory.

French and Bason added 10 points apiece to give Elms five players with double-digit point totals as the Blazers outscored Daniel Webster, 40-16 in the paint, scored 22 points off 28 Eagles' turnovers, and outscored the opposition, 17-5 in second chance points.

French added six steals, while senior guard Bryant Corcoran (Waterbury, Conn.) dished out five helpers and added five points in the win.

Cosby led all scorers with 18 points in the loss for Daniel Webster, while Dave Schindewolf (Robbinsville, N.J.) added seven points and a team-high six rebounds in the losing effort.

Elms is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 11 when it hosts Regis College at 2:00 p.m. for a NECC contest at Picknelly Arena.
