CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College field hockey team battled visiting Rivier University to a 2-1 overtime loss in non-conference action at Leary Field Monday night. The Blazers slide to 4-14 on the season, while Rivier improves to 4-13 overall.

In the 55th minute of play, Raiders sophomore Chelsie Hubicsak-Muldowney (Windham, N.H.) had a chance to break the scoreless tie on a corner, but her blast from the point rang off the right post. Less than a minute later, Rivier broke through as sophomore Jordan Parece (Pelham, N.H.) put back a rebound on a deflected shot from Muldowney to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.

With 11:30 to play, the Blazers found the equalizer as freshman Hayley Omahen (El Cajon, Calif.) hammered a ball that popped towards the net and landed in front of Rivier freshman goalkeeper Stevie Charest (Lisbon, Maine), where freshman Madison Messier (Warren, Mass.) swooped in and tucked a shot past Charest, evening the score at 1-1. Regulation play ended with the score tied.

After eight minutes of overtime action, the Raiders netted the game-winner as freshman Linsey Roth (Tyngsboro, Mass.) gathered a loose ball following a penalty corner, and placed a shot past Elms senior goalie Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.), to give Rivier the 2-1 victory.

Rivier outshot the Blazers, 21-9, during the contest. Alvino made a game-high 10 saves, while Charest stopped three shots in the win.

The Blazers will look to return to the win column in a New England Collegiate Conference tilt at Wheelock College Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. Rivier hosts Regis College (Mass.) Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
