CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Field Hockey squad was outlasted by rival Regis (Mass.), 1-0, in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) tilt at Leary Field Saturday afternoon. The Blazers drop to 1-9 overall, and 1-1 in NECC play, while the Pride move to 4-5, and 2-1 on the season.

The match started with numerous back and forth plays up the field. The Blazers had an opportunity to score within the first three minutes but a shot from senior Abby McNulty (Bedford, Mass.) ripped wide to the right leaving the Blazers scoreless.

At the 18-minute mark, The pride played out their first attack as freshman Jeszy McGuire (Brimfield, Mass.) tapped in a short pass into the box from junior Kelsey Morton (South Portland, Maine) to give Regis the 1-0 advantage going into the second that they would nurse until the final minute of play.

The Blazers had a few chances to even the score in the second half as they came out strong accumulating five of their 11 shots on goal. Within the last two minutes of action Madison Messier attempted to tie things up but played a long shot wide.

McNulty ran a well played pass up the right sideline looking for an open target and ended up sending a shot into the box which was stopped by senior Raegen Heck (Phillipstown, Mass.). Freshman Michaela Falk (Southington, Conn.) tried to harness a hold and tap in the rebound, but the attempt fell short and was cleared out. The final play of the match ended in an Elms corner however the Blazers could not convert and would remain scoreless at the end of the second half.

"I thought we played really hard today," said Elms College Head Coach Jennifer Ouellette. "Of course, we'd rather be on the other side of a 1-0 game. We have very few things to work on to win against Regis in a couple weeks. I thought we did good with our give-and-go's, staying postive with each other, and we battled until the very end. We are preparing for Wheelock next weekend, and we'll work on the small things to get the big win."

The Pride outshot the Blazers, 15-12, during the contest. Elms senior goalkeeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.) made a game-high 10 saves. while Heck recorded her second shutout of the season with nine saves.

The Blazers will battle Wheaton (Mass.) in non-conference road match Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. Regis returns to host Becker College in NECC action Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
