CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College Women's Field Hockey team fell to conference
rival Bay Path this afternoon 4-1 at Leary Field. With the loss the Blazers shift their
NECC record to 2-3 with a season mark of 2-12,while the Hawks soar to 5-11 overall, and 4-2 in the conference.
The contest remained neutral at the start with numerous back and forth plays up
and down the field, however at the 22:03 mark Brittany Bebaue (Harrisville, RI.)
knocked in the first goal of the afternoon sparking Becker's would be 3-0 run after a
breakaway opportunity on a missed Blazer attempt gave her a chance to light up the
scoreboard.
The Blazers were able to hold the Hawks to 1-0 at the end of the first half, with
several defensive stops enabling the Blazers to dismiss four Becker penalty corners.
However, just eight minutes into the second half the Hawks struck again as Amy
Grenier (Westminster, Mass.) fed a pass to Jocelyn Label (Grafton, Mass.) who found
the back of the net. Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.) was able to make three more
defensive saves for the Blazers before a loose ball was tucked away by Grenier
moving the Hawks up 3-0.
At 43:24 the Blazers were able to get on board after a feed from Hayley Omahen (El
Cajon, Calif.) found the stick of Abby McNulty (Bedford, Mass.) who ripped a shot
that found its way past the Hawk's keeper.
Becker was able to add one last goal to their arsenal at the 67:04 mark from the
stick of Katherine Landanno (Winchendon, Mass.) taking the Hawks past the
Blazers 4-1 to finish off the day.
Alvino ended the afternoon accumulating ten saves for Elms, while Gabrielle
Gallo(North Port, N.Y.) collected two for the Hawks.
The Blazers will travel to Regis College for a conference tilt Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Becker hosts Bay Path in NECC action Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
