CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College field hockey suffered a 6-0 loss to visiting Union College (N.Y.) in a non-conference battle Saturday afternoon at Leary Field. The Blazers move to 0-6 on the season, while Union improved to 3-2 overall.

After six minutes of scoreless play opened the match, the Dutchwomen cracked the scoreboard at the 6:14 mark as sophomore Hannah Madden (Manchester, N.H.) had her initial shot denied by Blazers senior goalkeeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.), but grabbed the loose ball and chipped a shot over Alvino's head to grab a 1-0 lead for Union. Elms held the Dutchwomen off the board for the next 16 minutes with strong defensive play until Union junior Alexis Steriti (Nahant, Mass.) found the back of the net in the 23rd minute to make it a 2-0 game. Just over five minutes late, Alvino challenged a long shot from the point, which ricocheted to the stick of Madden, who swung a pass to sophomore Sayyida Hasan (New Hartford, N.Y.), who placed into the back of the open goal, increasing the Dutchwomen lead to 3-0 heading into the intermission.

Union College opened the second half scoring with a tally from sophomore Angelina Stewart (Holderness, N.H.), off a feed from sophomore Rachel Andreana (Unionville, Conn.) to put Union up 4-0. In the 59th minute, the Dutchwomen converted off a penalty corner as senior Lauren Pacheco (Blue Bell, Pa.) fired home a touch from Andreana, upping the lead to 5-0. Madden bookended the scoring with a put-back rebound off a shot from the point, sending Union to a 6-0 win.

The Dutchwomen dominated the shot column, 47-0, during the contest. Alvino made a career-high 30 saves in the loss, while Union sophomore Courtney Casey (Somerville, Mass.) saw no action in 70 minutes of play.

The Blazers will look to register their first victory of the season went they host Lasell College Tuesday evening at Leary Field. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Union hosts Ramapo College Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.
