Women’s Volleyball Swept by Southern Vermont College, 3-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College senior outside hitter Christina Martin (Chicopee, Mass.) notched a team-high four kills, but Southern Vermont College setter Carrie Baltazar (Whittier, Calif.) dished out 30 assists to help pace the Mountaineers to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-8, 25-14) sweep of the Blazers in Wednesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's volleyball match at Picknelly Arena.

With the loss, Elms moves to 3-18 on the season, 1-6 in conference play, while Southern Vermont improves to 20-3 overall, 7-0 in NECC action.

Southern Vermont hit a solid .299 for the match behind nine kills each from Ashily Veliz (Los Angeles, Calif.), Elaine Guerrero (Garden Grove, Calif.) and Danielle Healis (Escondido, Calif.), while Jessica Alvarez (Los Angeles, Calif.) added eight kills in the winning effort.

Alvarez was also an impact on the defensive end, notching a match-best 16 digs, followed by an 11-dig effort from libero Cindyline Sevilla (Los Angeles, Calif.). Alvarez added five service aces and Baltazar downed three aces to help secure the win for the Mountaineers.

Martin led all Blazers with four kills and sophomore middle hitter JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) added three kills and team-best 10 digs.

Sophomore libero Caitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) chipped in eight digs and three service aces and senior setter Erika Murphy (Torrington, Conn.) handed out 11 assists in the loss.

Elms returns to NECC action on Saturday, Oct. 27 in its regular season finale at 1:00 p.m. at Becker College.
