Women’s Volleyball Falls to Mount Holyoke College, Connecticut College In Tri-Match

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball team suffered a pair of 3-0 setbacks to Mount Holyoke College and Connecticut College during Saturday afternoon's non-conference women's volleyball tri-match hosted by Mount Holyoke in South Hadley, Mass.

With the losses, Elms slips to 0-12 on the season. Mount Holyoke moves to 2-5 with a split during Saturday's action and Connecticut College improves to 9-1 overall.

In Elm's loss to Mount Holyoke, junior middle hitter Rachel Cowan (Ellington, Conn.) and freshman outside hitter Alexandra Mack (Wilbraham, Mass.) knocked down five kills apiece, while freshman setter Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) dished out a team-high 10 assists.

Senior setter Erika Murphy (Torrington, Conn.) and sophomore libero Caitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) added eight assists each, while Larvey led the defensive charge as well, notching a team-best 13 digs, followed by a 10-dig effort from senior outside hitter Christina Martin (Chicopee, Mass.).

Mount Holyoke was led offensively by Martina Kneifel (Oro Valley, Ariz.), Emma Sweeting (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and Kristina Weld (Warwick, Mass.) who each smashed a match-high seven kills, combining for 21 of the squads 23 kills in the contest.

Gaby Harrigan (San Juan, Puerto Rico) dished out 12 helpers and Kaleen Iwema (Wadsworth, Ill.) added a match-best 23 digs in the win. 

Against Connecticut College, Larvey registered a team-high 10 digs, while Bolton connected for eight assists and nine digs. 

Mack added four kills and sophomore middle hitter Christine Searles (Tolland, Mass.) followed with three kills to lead Elms in the losing effort. 

Elms returns to non-conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 25 when it hosts Pine Manor College at 6:00 p.m. at Picknelly Arena.
