Women’s Volleyball Falls at Daniel Webster College, 3-0

NASHUA, N.H. – Elms College sophomore middle hitter JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) downed a team-high 10 kills and hit .562 for the match, but Daniel Webster College's Jennifer Finneran (Barnstead, N.H.) posted a match-high 17 kills and added three solo blocks to help lift the Eagles to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-23) sweep of the Blazers in Tuesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's volleyball match at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

With the loss, Elms falls to 1-14 on the season, 0-2 in NECC action, while Daniel Webster improves to 8-5 overall, 1-0 in league play.

Samantha Hill (Hudson, N.H.) and Brier Temple (Concord, N.H.) racked up nine kills apiece for Daniel Webster, while Ally Hayden (Bedford, N.H.) dished out 32 assists and Maggie Belli (Miami, Fla.) pulled in a match-best 21 digs.

Pickett led Elms with a strong outing, knocking down 10 kills against one error to hit .562, and added nine digs and two solo blocks. Senior outside hitter Christina Martin (Chicopee) notched nine kills and seven digs, freshman setter Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) had three service aces, and senior setter Erika Murphy (Torrington, Conn.) handed out 11 assists in the losing effort.

Trailing 2-0 in the match, the Blazers took the lead late in the third frame following a stretch that saw Bolton serve up two aces and Martin floor a kill to put Elms ahead, 22-20. Daniel Webster answered with a Temple kill from the right side, back-to-back strikes from Finneran and then used a pair of Blazers' attacking miscues to close out the win.

The Eagles never trailed in sets one or two, and hit .205 overall for the match. Daniel Webster finished with advantages in total kills (39-26), assists (38-21), digs (60-54) and aces (5-4).

Elms returns to non-conference action on Thursday, Oct. 4 when it hosts MCLA at 6:00 p.m. at Picknelly Arena.
