Women’s Volleyball Falls to Sage, 3-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College senior outside hitter Christina Martin (Chicopee, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter Alexandra Mack (Wilbraham, Mass.) tallied six kills each, but Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) led the Sage Colleges with a match-high 10 kills and three solo blocks and Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) dished out 24 helpers to help spark the Gators to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-19) sweep of the Blazers in day two action of the 2012 Blazer Challenge at Picknelly Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Elms moves to 0-3 on the season, while Sage improves to 3-0 overall.

Sage received a 13-dig effort from Katelyn Drolette (Cadyville, N.Y.), while Kera Ray (Horseheads, N.Y.) added six kills and seven digs in the winning effort.

Elms' senior setter Erika Murphy (Torrington, Conn.) dished out 16 assists and added nine digs. Sophomore libero Caitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) also added nine digs in the losing effort.

In the day's first match, SUNY Cobleskill (2-1) outlasted Albertus Magnus College (1-2) to hold for a sensational 3-2 (25-16, 22-25, 25-21, 27-29, 15-4) victory.

Hannah Barr (Duanesburg, N.Y.) pounded down a match-high 15 kills and Melissa Spears (East Fishkill, N.Y.) added 12, while Amber Baker (Caroga Lake, N.Y.) led the squad with 21 digs. Kim Cordova (Oneonta, N.Y.) followed that effort with 19 digs and Brooke Burke (Lansing, N.Y.) chipped in 13 to give the Fighting Tigers 83 for the match.

Casey Holbert (Sauquoit, N.Y.) and Mary Gallagher (Troy, N.Y.) handed out 21 and 20 assists respectively in the win.

Krista LaBissoniere (Meriden, Conn.) led all diggers with 28 for the Falcons who had four players register double-digit digs. Martiza Rosemond (New Haven, Conn.) added 19, Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) tabbed 18 and Nicole Accerra (East Haven, Conn.) notched 14 for Albertus Magnus in the losing effort.

Rosemond amassed 30 assists, and found Manning for a team-high 14 kills.
