CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore attacker Katlyn Harrington (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season, but Green Mountain College received a five-goal, four-assist performance from junior Amanda Malkin (Barrylakes, N.J.) to help lift the Eagles to a 16-1 victory over the Blazers in the 2010 season opener for Elms College.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-1 overall, while Green Mountain improves to 1-1 on the season.

Green Mountain got off to a fast start as sophomore Amanda Posey (Columbus, Ga.) netted the first of her three scores just 14 seconds into the contest. Posey added another goal, and Malkin delivered three of her scoring strikes in the opening 30 minutes to help pace the Eagles to a 9-1 advantage at intermission.

Harrington scored the Blazers’ only goal of the game with 12:33 to play in the opening frame, making the score 8-1. Green Mountain’s Celie Dagesse (St. Petersburg, Fla.) then capped the first period scoring at the 1:31 mark with the first of her three goals.

Green Mountain added to its lead as Malkin and Dagesse each scored two more goals in the second stanza, while Posey, senior Maggie Scherer (Hamel, Minn.) and sophomore Elizabeth Cerezo (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico) netted a goal each to secure the Eagles’ 16-1 victory.

Blazers’ sophomore defender Emily McInerney (Glastonbury, Conn.) led the squad with a game-high six ground balls in the losing effort, while Harrington earned five draw controls.

Senior goalkeeper Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, Mass.) stopped 13 shots for Elms.

Green Mountain freshman Alexandra Hilliard (Brockton, Mass.) collected a team-high five ground balls , while sophomore Kelsy Allan (Jupiter, Fla.) notched 11 saves.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, March 20 when it hosts Mount Ida in a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
