Thirteen First-Half Goals Lift Westfield State Past Women's Lacrosse, 18-1

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Elms College sophomore attacker Chelsey Grabowski (South Hadley, Mass.) netted a goal, but Westfield State College scored 13 goals in the opening period and received a four-goal effort from Rachel Dionne (Feeding Hills, Mass.) to pace the Owls to an 18-1 victory over the Blazers in Friday evening's New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) contest in Westfield, Mass.

With the loss, Elms concludes its season 0-15 overall, 0-7 in NEWLA action, while Westfield State improves to 11-3 overall, 6-1 in league play.

Westfield State jumped out to an early 9-0 lead behind two goals each from Dionne and Carly Keeley (Feeding Hills, Mass.) before Grabowski found the back of the net with her team-best 19th goal of the year.

The Owls added four more scores in the period and had 10 different players finish the first 30 minutes of play with a goal.

Dionne added her third and fourth goals of the game in the second half, while Laura Chiricosta (Lexington, Mass.), Abbey Crowell (Pembroke, Mass.) and Devon Hatch (Billerica, Mass.) each notched their second scores of the game in the final stanza.

Five Westfield State players totaled two goals, while Dionne, Ally Brown (Andover, Mass.) and Keeley added a pair of assists each in the winning effort.
