Castleton State Runs Past Women’s Lacrosse, 21-1

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College junior midfielder Jennifer Lough (Feeding Hills, Mass.) netted her second goal of the season, but Castleton State College had three players score three goals to help pace the Spartans to a 21-1 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon’s New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) women’s lacrosse game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms slides to 0-4 overall, 0-1 NEWLA, while Castleton State improves to 3-3 on the season, 1-0 NEWLA.

Castleton State received three goals each from Stephanie Pearce (Shoreham, N.Y.), Katelyn Nardini (Scotia-Glenville, N.Y.) and Marie VanDerKar (Manchester, Vt.), while Elizabeth Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y.) added two scores to highlight a 15-goal first period for the Spartans.

Castleton State upped its lead to 19-0 before Lough found the back of the net at the 14:20 mark to get the Blazers on the board.

Jessica Taplin (Barre, Vt.) found Amy Costa (Bristol, R.I.) for the 20th goal of the game, before Stephanie Paproski (Newton, Conn.) capped the scoring with a free position goal.

Haggerty, Paproski, Costa , Nicole Adams (Rutland, Vt.) and Corinne Healy (Jefferson Township, N.J.) finished with two goals apiece, while Pearce, Adams and Paproski  assisted on two scoring strikes each.

Julia Jenko (Essex, Vt.) scooped a game-best four groundballs, while Elms’ freshman attacker Chelsey Grabowski (South Hadley, Mass.), senior midfielder Melissa Pava (Springfield, Mass.) and Lough each notched a pair of groundballs in the losing effort for the Blazers.

Elms returns to NEWLA action on Tuesday, March 30 when it hosts Fitchburg State College at 5:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
