CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore midfielder Chelsey Grabowski (South Hadley, Mass.) scored a goal and junior goalkeeper Jennifer Lough (Feeding Hills, Mass.) notched 13 saves, but Bridgewater State College netted 17 goals in the first period and Shannon Manning (Framingham, Mass.) scored five goals and added eight assists to help lift the Bears to a 26-1 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) contest at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-11 on the season, 0-4 in league play, while Bridgewater State improves to 9-4 on the season, 3-1 in NEWLA action.

Bridgewater State raced out to a 7-0 lead in the opening 7:02 on the strength of three scores from Manning and two from Jenny Jones (Framingham, Mass.).

Jones scored twice more, Manning added her fourth goal of the period, and Kristin White (Pelham, Mass.) struck for a pair of goals to help lift the Bears to a 17-0 advantage at halftime.

Grabowski got Elms on the board with 27:46 remaining in the second frame but nine more goals, including two from Courtney Lennon (Medfield, Mass.) and one more each from Jones, Manning and White, helped pace Bridgewater State to its 26-1 victory.

Jones finished with four goals and three assists, while Katie DeMaio (Port Jeffereson Station, N.Y.), Lennon and White found the back of the net three times apiece. DeMaio also assisted on five scores and collected a game-best five groundballs. Patricia Maloney (Walpole, Mass.) tallied a game-high six draw controls in the winning effort, while Jones and Erin Quimby (Chelmsford, Mass.) notched three helpers each.

Bridgewater State eclipsed the NCAA women's lacrosse record for assists in a game with 26 helpers today. The Bears broke their own mark of 24 assists which was set in a 26-3 win over Becker College in 2008.

Manning tied the program's single-game scoring mark with her 13 points. Paula Habel originally set the record back in 2002 and it was equaled by Jones in 2009. Manning also became the Bears' all-time scoring leader with 342 points. She surpassed Habel's (2000-2003) previous school mark of 336 points.

Elms' sophomore midfielder Kim Jodoin (Pittsfield, Mass.) scooped a team-high four groundballs in the loss.

Elms returns to non-conference action on Tuesday, April 20 when it hosts St. Joseph College (Conn.). First-draw is set for 7:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
