Swimming Races Bridgewater State In Final Tune-Up

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Elms College men's and women's competed in their final tune-up prior to the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships, racing against Bridgewater State Saturday afternoon at Moriarty Pool.

On the men's side, senior Ryan Burgos (Plaistow, N.H.) posted a pair NEISDA qualifying times in the 50 yard freestyle (24.07) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:01.00). Sophomore Michael Grippo (East Longmeadow, Mass.) registered qualifying times in the 50 yard backstroke (27.47) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:06.59). Senior Nick Cirillo (Gloversville, N.Y.) qualified in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 17:53.02, freshman Paul Ferraro (Walpole, Mass.) qualified in the 50 yard breaststroke (35.13), and junior DJ Sherman (Winstead, Conn.) qualified in the 500 yard freestyle (5:35.98). Sophomore Joseph Sutton (Suffield, Conn.) claimed second in the 200 yard freestyle (2:38.47), freshman Joshua Guntly (Chicopee, Mass.) took second in the 200 yard backstroke (2:35.95), and junior Tony Luciani (Agawam, Mass.) claimed fourth in the 50 yard butterfly (31.54).

For the women's squad, freshman Kelly Scianna (Milford, Conn.) posted a pair of NEISDA qualifying times in the 50 yard backstroke (33.17) and the 100 yard freestyle (1:01.28). Junior Aislinn Carrier (Charlestown, Mass.) qualified in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:13.17, while sophomore Desiree Milar (Springfield, Mass.) qualified in the 50 yard breaststroke (37.22). Sophomore Amanda Rotberg (Rowley, Mass.) qualified in the 50 yard butterfly (30.58), and freshman Natalie Obando (Chicopee, Mass.) qualified in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:34.45.  Senior Kelly O'Connell (Monson, Mass.) placed second in the 500 yard freestyle (6:27.05),

The Blazers will be back in the pool for the NEISDA Championships, held at the University of Rhode Island, from February 16-19.
