CHICOPEE, MA – Elms College freshman
Tavish Leland (Bridgton, ME) scored the game
winning goal to help lift the Blazers to a hard-fought 2-1 victory
over Becker College in Saturday afternoon’s New England
Collegiate Conference men’s soccer game at Leary Field.
With the win, Elms closes its regular season 5-13 overall, 3-4 in
league action, while Becker moves to 3-16-1 on the season, 2-5 in
NECC play.
After playing a scoreless first half, Becker found the net just
four minutes into the second period when Steve Aroujo
(Westport, MA) capitalized on a pass from Ryan
Singh (Elmont, NY), giving the Hawks a 1-0 edge.
Elms netted the equalizer at the 54:25 mark when junior
Justin Pearson (Torrington, CT) sent the ball past
Becker goalkeeper Aaron Fill (Ladner, BC) for his
third score of the season.
Leland then delivered what proved to be the game-winner when he
controlled a corner kick attempt from junior Sam Senecal
(Chicopee, MA) and banged the ball into the net, extending
the lead to 2-1.
A solid defensive effort kept Becker from tying the game as
Blazers’ senior goalkeeper Nick Pellegrini (Ludlow,
MA) captained that effort with three saves on the day.
