NEW LONDON, CT – Elms College senior
goalkeeper Nick Pellegrini (Ludlow, MA) snagged 10
saves, but Mitchell College’s Jamie Serrano (Clinton,
CT) scored a pair of goals to lift the Mariners to a 2-0
victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon’s New England
Collegiate Conference (NECC) men’s soccer game.
With the loss, Elms falls to 3-9 overall, 1-3 in NECC action, while
Mitchell ups its record to 4-6 on the season, 2-1 in league
play.
Serrano netted the game’s first goal at the 25:52 mark when
he scored off a rebound shot from six yards out. He added his
second goal in the 43rd minute off a pass from Will
Frohnoefer (Syosset, NY), blasting a shot in the top right
corner of the net, giving the Mariners a 2-0 lead heading into
halftime.
The sides played a scoreless second frame that saw Mitchell
outshoot the Blazers 12-6.
The Mariners won the shot battle for the contest 28-11 and had
three players record six shots in the winning effort.
Elms returns home for a non-conference showdown with Amherst on
Tuesday, Oct. 13. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
