Women’s Lacrosse Falls at Fitchburg State University, 19-4

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Elms College junior attacker Chelsey Grabowski (South Hadley, Mass.) netted three of the Blazers' four goals, but Fitchburg State University  fired in 17 first-half scores to help propel the Falcons to a 19-4 victory in Wednesday evening's New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) women's lacrosse game in Fitchburg, Mass.

With the loss, Elms falls to 2-7 overall, 0-3 in NEWLA action, while Fitchburg State improves to 5-1 on the season, 1-1 league play.

Fitchburg's Samantha Bonasera (Chelsea, Vt.) netted the Falcons' first three scores in the opening 2:07 of the contest and added her fourth strike at the 21:07 mark as nine different Falcons scored in the opening 30 minutes of play.

Amanda Burns (Weymouth, Mass.) and Kelly Finamore (Weymouth, Mass.) each scored three times in the period, while Connie Perry (Reading, Mass.) found the net twice for Fitchburg State. Carissa Kennedy (Somerset, Mass.), Tessa Leah (Cohasset, Mass.), Jill Shaner (Arlington, Mass.), Avery Neusch (Windham, N.H.), Cassandra Benoit (North Dartmouth, Mass.), Erin Murphy (Warwick, R.I.) and Kayla Melville (Merrimac, Mass.) each finished with a goal to help seal the win.

In the final 12:23 of play, Elms' received a score from sophomore attacker Catherine Duquette (Naples, Maine) and two more from Grabowski.

Elms' junior goalkeeper Marcia Norat (Brockton, Mass.) made her first start in goal and suffered the loss (0-1) notching seven saves.

Fitchburg State net-minder Dylana Drolette (Burlington, Vt.) recorded the win to improve to 5-1, while Sammi Gorman (Malta, N.Y.) played the second half between the pipes and turned away three shots.

Elms returns to NEWLA action on Saturday, April 9 when it hosts Framingham State University at 4:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
