Castleton State College Downs Women’s Lacrosse, 23-0

CASTLETON, Vt. – Elms College junior goalkeeper Annette Dzidek (Chicopee, Mass.) recorded 13 saves but Castleton State College used 14 first-half goals to help lift the Spartans to a 23-0 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) opener for both teams at Spartan Stadium.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-4 overall, 0-1 in NEWLA action, while Castleton State evens its record at 2-2 on the season, 1-0 in NEWLA play.

Angelica Mazzola (Centerport, N.Y.) opened the scoring for Castleton State 1:42 into the contest on a free position shot and added two more scores in the period as the Spartans posted a 14-0 lead at intermission.

Sarah Clark (Guilford, Vt.) added both of her scores in the first 30 minutes to highlight the early surge for the Spartans.

In the second half, Amanda Flodstrom (Stratham, N.H.) found the back of the net on a free position shot for the second of her three goals, while Stephanie Paproski (Newtown, Conn.) netted two of her three goals in the second frame.

Liz Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y.) struck for two goals in the second half as Castleton State had 14 players finish with a goal.

Elms' junior defender Emily McInerney (Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore attacker Jaclyn Mederios (Brant Rock, Mass.) scooped two groundballs each in the loss, while the Spartans' Marie Van Der Kar (Manchester, Vt.) collected a game-best eight groundballs.

Elms is back in action on Tuesday, March 29 when it hosts Daniel Webster College in a non-conference tilt at 4:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
