Women’s Lacrosse Surges Past Pine Manor College, 10-3

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Elms College junior attacker Chelsey Grabowski (South Hadley, Mass.) scored six goals to help propel the Blazers to a 10-3 win over Pine Manor College in Thursday afternoon's non-conference women's lacrosse contest in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Elms has now won two straight to improve to 2-4 on the season, while Pine Manor falls to 0-1 on the season.

Elms posted an early 4-0 lead as Grabowski, netted three scores and junior attacker Emily Walsh (Hadley, Mass.) added one. 

Pine Manor's Beth Deegan (Philadelphia, Pa.) netted the first of her two scores at the 14:41 mark before Grabowski fed senior attacker Melissa Meon (South Hadley, Mass.) for her first score of the afternoon to set the score at 5-1 with 10:31 to play in the opening half.

The Gators received a scoring strike from Alie Johnston (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) at the 4:24 mark and Grabowski answered 1:19 later to give the Blazers a 6-2 cushion at intermission.

Eight minutes into the second stanza, Grabowski and Walsh netted back-to-back goals one minute apart to give Elms an 8-2 advantage.

Deegan found the back of the net with 13:56 to play in the game to pull the Gators to within five at 8-3, but Walsh registered her third score of the afternoon just 33 seconds later and Grabowski capped the scoring at the 9:05 mark to give Elms a 10-3 victory.

Blazers' junior goalkeeper Annette Dzidek (Chicopee, Mass.) recorded six saves and moves to 2-4 on the season with the win, while Walsh scooped up a team-high eight groundballs in the winning effort.

Meon and Grabowski added seven groundball pickups each.

Pine Manor goalkeeper Colleen Tenzca (South Meriden, Conn.) registered 11 saves in the losing effort and falls to 0-1 on the season, while Deegan recorded 10 groundballs for the Gators.  

Elms returns to action on Saturday, April 2 when it hosts Becker College in a New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) tilt at 1:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
