Box Score

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College senior goalkeeper Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) notched 10 saves, but Westfield State University's David Anderson (Springfield, Mass.) struck for three goals as the Owls used four second half scores to stake a 5-0 win over the Blazers in Tuesday afternoon's non-conference men's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms moves to 2-4 on the season, while Westfield State improves to 5-1-1 overall.

In the opening stanza, the sides played to a scoreless tie through the first 40 minutes until Anderson was pulled down in the box and was awarded a penalty kick and capitalized with a quick strike to the left corner of the net giving the Owls a 1-0 lead which it held until intermission.

Eight minutes into the second half, Westfield State struck again, this time when Tim Parsons (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) lofted a beautiful service to Kyle Yelin (Southwick, Mass.) who scored to give the Owls a 2-0 lead. Five minutes later, Jon Principato (Stoneham, Mass.) put Westfield State ahead, 3-0 with 30 minutes to play in the contest when he beat the keeper on a breakaway.

Anderson tallied his second and third goals of the game via breakaway and a well-executed give-and-go with Dan Brady (Wilbraham, Mass.) to set the final score at 5-0.

Westfield State edged the Blazers in shots in the first half, 12-7, but enjoyed a 15-3 shot differential in the final 45 minutes to help keep the pressure on Elms' defensive third.

Elms' freshman defender Anthony Nitri (Feeding Hills, Mass.) blasted two shots on target sophomore forward Ziggy Jonathan (Springfield, Mass.), freshman forward Joseph Coleman (Easthampton, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Josh DiNoto (Branford, Conn.) fired one shot on net each.

Owls' goalkeeper Keith Hevey (Chicopee, Mass.) was stellar between the pipes stopping five shots en route to his second victory of the season.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when it hosts Newbury College in its New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opener at 3:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
