Baseball Wins Thriller Over Olivet, 13-12 In 12 Innings

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Elms College sophomore infielder Nicolino Iavicoli (Hampden, Mass.) delivered the game winning hit to lift the Blazers to a thrilling 13-12 victory over Olivet College in 12 innings of baseball on Sunday at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.

With the win, Elms improves to 2-1 on the season.

Iavicoli cracked his game-winning hit in the top of 12th inning of play to help lift the Blazers to their second win of the season.

The sophomore finished 2 for 5 on the day.

Senior right-hander Mike Andrews (Greenfield, Mass.) picked up the win after pitching two frames of relief for Elms. Andrews also smashed a home run earlier in the game to help the caue offensively, going 3 for 4 from the dish with two RBI.

Freshman outfielder Steve Fisher (West Boylston, Mass.) was 2 for 5 with four runs scored in the winning effort.

Senior righty Mike Bieber (Wading River, N.Y.) hurled three stellar innings, while sophomore southpaw Zach LeBarron (Bennington, Vt.) was solid on the hill in the winning effort tossing seven strikeouts in four frames of work.

Elms will take on Haverford College in Gene Cusic Classic action on Monday, March 8 at 10:00 a.m. in Fort Myers.
