Baseball Splits With Finlandia, Wednesday
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Elms College junior
right-hander Matt Wood (Feeding Hills, Mass.)
pitched a complete game to earn the win in the first of two games
against Finlandia University to help lift the Blazers to a split
with the Lions in Wednesday's baseball action at the Gene Cusic
Classic in Fort Myers.
Elms won the first contest 16-2, before falling 11-3 in the second
game of the twinbill against Finlandia.
Game One
Wood tossed a seven-inning complete game, striking out a
school-record 11 batters in the process.
Senior outfielder Robert Reyome (Westfield, Mass.)
was 3 for 3 with four runs scored and two RBI, while sophomore
outfielder Donald Morse (Alfred, Maine) was 4 for
4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI. Junior infielder
Hector Roche (Bronx, N.Y.), freshman outfielder
Stephen Fisher (West Boylston, Mass.), sophomore
infielder Nicolino Iavicoli (Hampden, Mass.) and
senior infielder Mike Andrews (Greenfield, Mass.)
each had two hits in the win.
Game Two
Senior right-hander Dan Ingraham (Granby, Mass.)
suffered the game-two loss to the Lions. He struck out three
batters in four innings of work.
Junior shortstop Brendan Cordeiro (Berkley, Mass.)
and Morse each went 1 for 3 with an RBI at dish.
Elms concludes Gene Cusic Classic action on Thursday, March 11
with a double header against Illinois College. First-pitch of game
one is slated for 9:00 a.m. with the second game slated for a 12:00
p.m. start time.
