Women’s Soccer Caps Regular Season with Home Win over Anna Maria

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Women's soccer team ended their regular season with a GNAC win over Anna Maria on Tuesday night on Leary Field.

BASICS

Score: Blazers 1 – AMCATS 0

Records:  Blazers (7-9-1) (6-8-1 GNAC) | AMCATS (0-15-2) (0-14-0 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Blazers came out and controlled the game from the opening kickoff. Elms raked up 14 first have shots to go with 7 corner kicks, but timely saves by the Amcats keeper and several near misses sent the game into the half scoreless.

The home side continued to dominate possession and it finally paid off in the 53rd minute. It was the Malheiro, Basua connection that would get it done again for the Blazers. Kelly Malheiro (Long Island, N.Y.) slipped a pass to the foot of Emily Basua (Oxnard, CA) who drilled a shot near post and into the back of the Anna Maria net. Elms would rely on its backline to see out the 1-0 GNAC win.

The win secures the 9th seed for the Blazers and out them in a Play-In scenario.

With the assist Malheiro finished the 2023 regular season with12, good enough for first in the GNAC. Basua notched her 11th goal of the campaign, ranking her tied for third in the conference.
