Women’s Soccer Can’t Complete Comeback at Colby-Sawyer

New London, NH – The Elms College Women's Soccer Team couldn't erase an early two goal deficit on Saturday afternoon, falling to Colby-Sawyer College in GNAC action.

BASICS

Score: Blazers 1 – Chargers 2

Records:  Blazers (6-9-1) (5-8-1 GNAC) | Chargers (11-5-3) (10-3-1 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Chargers struck early, finding the back of the net off of a header, from a corner kick in the 4th minute. Five minutes later the home side extended it's lead to 2-0 and looked to run away with the conference game. Elms started to find some possession and cut the Chargers lead to 2-1 in the 20th minute. Kelley Malhiero (Long Island, N.Y.) played a perfect through ball over the top of the Colby-Sawyer back-line to Emily Basua (Oxnard, CA) who chipped a shot over the keeper into the back of the net. The rest of the opening half was mostly played in the middle of the field with neither team getting any real chances.

The second half saw back and forth action with both teams nearly scoring multiple times with the Blazers unable to find the equalizer ending the game 2-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Basua (3 SH, 3 SOG, 1G)
  • Malheiro (1 SH, 1 SOG,1A)
  • Picheo (4 Saves)

FROM THE DESK OF COACH MILBIER:
"We had some players really step up for us today. We came into the match down 4 starters and got some big-time performances from multiple people. Saying that, it's always tough to get a result after conceding 2 goals in the first 10 minutes; however, we were able to get 1 back and absolutely battled to find the equalizer. "

UP NEXT:

The Blazers are back in action on Tuesday 10/24 when they host Anna Maria College in the regular season finale on Leary Filed at 7 p.m. in GNAC play.
