Pair of Second Half Goals Powers Women’s Soccer Past Mitchell

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Women's Soccer Team defeated Mitchell College on Wednesday night in GNAC action.

 

BASICS

Score: Blazers 3 – Mariners 1 

Records:  Blazers (6-5) (5-4 GNAC) | Mariners (2-8-1) (0-8-1 GNAC)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Blazers wasted no time in jumping on top, scoring less than two minutes into the match when Kelly Malheiro (Long Island, N.Y.) was sent in on goal off a pass from Jamie McDonough (Dedham, MA) and slipped a ball under the Mariners keeper. Elms continued to apply pressure on the Mitchell goal but were unable to extend the lead. The visitors found the equalizer in the 17th minute, the game would remain tied 1-1 going into the break.

Elms wasted no time finding the back of the net in the second half. A goal by Caroline Wilcox (Pomfret Center, CT) in the 48th minute and another from Jamie McDonough (Dedham, MA) in the 53rd minute would give the Blazers all they needed, as goalkeeper Gianna Liquori held the Mariners scoreless over the final 45 minutes.
