Women’s Soccer Drops Conference Match at Emmanuel

Boston, MA – The Elms College Women's Soccer team came up short in their GNAC match at Emmanuel College on Tuesday night.

BASICS

Score: Blazers 1 – Saints 5

Records:  Blazers (6-7) (5-6 GNAC) | Saints (11-2-0) (9-1-0 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Saints opened the scoring in the 10th minute, jumping out to a 1-0 lead.

The match remained 1-0 until the two sides traded goals early in the second half. The Saints struck first, extending their lead to 2-0.

Elms turned up the pressure on the Saints defense, breaking through just 90 seconds later on the sixth goal of the year by sophomore Jamie McDonough (Dedham, MA). The Blazers forward found space in the right-side of the Saints penalty area, and after cutting back to her right foot, McDonough chipped a shot over Saints sophomore goalie, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

The Blazers continued to apply pressure on the Saints, producing numerous opportunities to tie the game, but were unable to find the equalizer.

The home side regained the momentum and pushed their lead to 3-1 in the 69th minute. Emmanuel would add two more goals in the next eight minutes, securing the match.

"Emmanuel is a very strong side, if you want to compete with them you must limit mistakes, especially in your own end. We played really well in spurts, I'm very proud of the way we responded after going down 2-0. We got one back and nearly tied up the game several times. The team continues to believe in itself, we're looking forward to our next match. "

The Blazers host Regis College on Saturday 10/14 at 1p.m. on Leary Filed in more GNAC action. This will also be Senior Day for the Blazers.
