Women's Soccer Draws With Wesleyan

CHICOPEE, Mass. - Elms College Blazers and the Wesleyan University Cardinals battled to a 0-0 draw after two overtime periods. Both teams had several scoring opportunities but could not get anything through.

Blazers goalkeeper Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.) turned away all five shots that came her way, including a diving effort with 23:53 remaining in the first. Midfielder Jenny Cascino (Niskayuna, N.Y.) gathered the ball after a corner kick and fired a shot from a few feet out. Rinaudo dove and punched the ball out of the area.

Cardinals goalkeeper Jessica Tollman (Brookline, Mass) stopped two shots that both came in the second period.

The Blazers and the Cardinals both played tremendous defense and only let seven shots on goal combined.

"Our effort was unbelieveable today," said Elms Head Coach Sean Milbier. "To play 90 minutes and another 20 minutes of overtime, the effort was phenomenal. We were smart with ball, and had some great chances to score late in the match. Momentum is huge, and right now we have a lot of momentum going for us. Our confidence right now is sky high. We will learn from this match, but now we change our focus to Newbury and a conference match. Newbury is going to present some challenges, they've had some good results this year, they've played some good teams tough. I think if we come out and play the way we played today, we'll be alright. We had a couple starters out today, and some players in new positions, but I'm just really proud of the team right now."

Elms record moves to 4-8-1, while the Cardinals go to 1-8-2.The Blazers travel to Newbury College Saturday, October 18 at 11:00 AM for their 5th NECC Conference game of the season. The Cardinals will host Amherst College Saturday, October 18 at 2:30 PM.
