Women’s Lacrosse Bests Daniel Webster College, 14-11

NASHUA, N.H.  – Elms College sophomore attacker Lauren Mazza (Agawam, Mass.) scored eight goals to help the Blazers pull away to a 14-11 victory over Daniel Webster College in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's lacrosse game at Eagle Field in Nashua, N.H.

With the win, Elms improves to 4-6 overall, 1-1 in NECC action, while Daniel Webster falls to 0-4 on the season, 0-2 in NECC play.

Mazza highlighted a strong first half for Elms, scoring six of her eight goals in the first 30 minutes of action.

After racing out to an early 2-0 lead, Daniel Webster's Kaylea Parkin (Red Hook, N.Y.) found the back of the net to cut the Eagles' deficit in half at 2-1. The Blazers answered with five straight scores to give Elms a 7-1 lead with 15:46 remaining in the opening period. Mazza fired in three goals during the stretch while freshman attacker Ashley Cava (Wilbraham, Mass.) and sophomore attacker Nora McDonough (South Hadley, Mass.) added a score each.

The Eagles out-scored Elms 5-3 over the final 12:41 of the first half but the Blazers entered intermission with a 10-6 advantage.

Daniel Webster's Alexis Pavelock (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) bookended a scoring strike from Mazza to set the Elms lead to 11-8 with 25:53 remaining in the contest, but the Blazers used three consecutive goals (two from Grabowski and one more from Mazza) to stake a 14-8 lead at the 18:30 mark.

The Eagles received three goals from Samantha Cotoni (Groton, Mass.) in the final 12:03 of the game, but it was not enough as Elms closed out a 14-11 victory.

Cava led all players with six groundball pickups, while Elms' sophomore goalkeeper Alysha Parsons (Newington, Conn.) earned the win and made 11 saves. McDonough finished with three goals, while Grabowski had two.

Cotoni finished with four goals and four groundballs in the loss for the Eagles, while Brandi Ritz (Burlington, N.J.) notched five groundballs.

Lauren Carrick (Pelham, N.H.) made six saves in the losing effort between the pipes.

Elms returns to NECC action on Tuesday, April 16 when it hosts Bay Path College for a 7:00 p.m. contest at Leary Field.
