Colson and Mazza Garner NECC Weekly Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College sophomore softball player Jessica Colson (Agawam, Mass.) was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Pitcher of the Week and sophomore women’s lacrosse player Lauren Mazza (Agawam, Mass.) was named NECC Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.

Colson earned her first NECC weekly accolade of the season after helping the Blazers to a 4-2 week in NECC action. Colson struck out 25 batters in 21.0 frames of work in the circle including 12 strikeouts in a tough 9-4 loss to Becker College. Colson pitched a complete-game in three of her four starts and allowed 11 runs (six earned) on 19 hits and finished with a 2.00 ERA during her stretch in the circle.

Mazza was named NECC Player of the Week for the first time this season scoring nine total goals including eight in a conference win over Daniel Webster College. Mazza also picked up three groundballs in the win over the Eagles and added two draw controls, while making three groundball scoops in a 10-8 win over Massachusetts Maritime Academy in non-league play.
