Women's Lacrosse Falls to Becker College, 13-6

LEICESTER, Mass. – Elms College sophomore attacker Lauren Mazza (Agawam, Mass.) netted five goals, but Becker College used six scores from Ashley Mossey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and three from Kailee Ruyack (Beacon, N.Y.) to seal a 13-6 victory in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's lacrosse game.

With the loss, Elms moves to 2-6 overall, 0-1 in NECC action, while Becker improves to 3-7 on the season, 1-0 in league play.

In the first 30 minutes of play, Becker held a 7-4 advantage backed by two goals by Mossey and two each from Ruyack and Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, N.J.). Mazza tallied all four markers for the Blazers in the first half.

In the second half, the Hawks pulled away scoring five unanswered goals and Mossey finished with four of her six goals during second half action. Mazza added her fifth strike with 9:59 to play and senior forward Cathy Duquette (Naples, Maine) netted a goal with 1:27 to play to set the final score at 13-6.

Elms' senior defender Erika Murphy (Torrington, Conn.) picked up a team-high five groundballs and caused four Becker turnovers, while junior midfielder Brianna Lyons (Canton, Mass.) added four groundball pickups of her own.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alysha Parsons (Newington, Conn.) made 15 saves in the loss, while Becker net-minder Shelby Wicks (Shaftsbury, Vt.) turned away six shots in the win for the Hawks.

Elms returns to non-conference action on Thursday, April 11 at Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 7:00 p.m.
