Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Bard College, 17-2

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Elms College senior attacker Chelsey Grabowski (South Hadley, Mass.) and sophomore attacker Lauren Mazza (Agawam, Mass.) each scored a goal, but Bard College, which scored 11 first-half goals, used six scores from Mary-Elizabeth Clair (Bristol, R.I.) to help spark the Raptors to a 17-2 victory in Saturday afternoon's non-conference women's lacrosse game.

With the loss, Elms falls to 1-3 on the season, while Bard evens its record to 1-1 overall.

Bard raced out to a 7-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals from both Clair and Victoria Fleisher (Brooklyn, N.Y.) before Mazza put Elms on the board with her tally with 12:04 to play in the first period.

The Raptors added two more goals before Grabowski found the back of the net for the Blazers setting the score at 9-2 with 4:45 to play in the stanza. However, Clair responded just 19 seconds later and Stephanie LaMont (Skippack, Pa.) delivered her first marker of the game to give Bard an 11-2 lead at intermission.

The Raptors added six more goals in the second half including two apiece from Fleisher and Clair, while LaMont and Joanna Regan (Selden, N.Y.) added a goal each to seal the 17-2 victory.

Elms' sophomore goalkeeper Alysha Parsons (Newington, Conn.) turned away 10 shots in the loss, and senior defender Erika Murphy (Torrington, Conn.) picked up six groundballs for the Blazers.

Neena Marano (Jeffersonville, Pa.) led all players with nine groundball pickups while goalkeeper Maddy Huggins (Mukitteo, Wash.) made four saves to seal the win.

Elms returns to action on Wednesday, March 20 when it hosts non-league foe Westfield State University at 4:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
