Messier, Lusardi Claim NECC Honors After Stellar Performances

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – After extending their winning streak to five games, all in New England Collegiate Conference play, Elms College shortstop Madison Messier was honored as the league’s Player of the Week while teammate Lisa Lusardi took home NECC Pitcher of the Week recognition.

Messier (Warren, Mass.) hit safely in all four games during the week, including three multi-hit games, two of which were three-hit games. She also had eight RBI and three doubles. In her top performance of the week, Messier went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI in the second game of a double-header against Mitchell. The junior hit .750 for the week while slugging 1.000 with an OBP of .786, with no strikeouts in 14 plate-appearances. Defensively, Messier had eight put-outs and six assists without an error from her shortstop position.

Lusardi (Enfield, Conn.) went 2-0 and did not allow an earned run in four appearances, including two starts, on the week. She pitched a total of 12.0 innings and struck out nine batters, giving up just three runs, all unearned. Lusardi also allowed only three walks on the week.

The Blazers swept series’ against Southern Vermont and Mitchell over the weekend, and will visit Nichols in a non-conference double-header on April 12.
